Police on Sunday claimed to have recovered 12 kilograms of poppy-straw-like substance from an alleged drug-peddler during a naka at Levdora Qazigund in south-Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
A police official concerned told news agency Global News Service (GNS) that following receipt of specific information about peddling of drugs within jurisdiction of Police Station Qazigund, a party led by SHO Qazigund Inspector Irshad Reshi established a Naka at Levdora Qazigund.
The team, as per the official, during the course of time intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration Number JK03B-8948.
On searches, 12 kgs of poppy-straw-like substance was recovered from the vehicle driven by one person namely Javeed Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kuchpora Qazigund, the official said.
The accused was arrested on the spot besides the vehicle used in commission of crime also seized and subsequently an FIR number 72/2021 under section 8-15 NDPS Act stand registered at Police station Qazigund and due investigations taken up, the official added.
Meanwhile, the police have requested public to extend their cooperation and share with them any information regarding any anti-social activity in their neighborhood. (GNS)
