A new book on Jammu and Kashmir – Between the Great Divide A Journey into Pakistan-Administered Kashmir – is a latest non-fiction work written by Pakistani author Anam Zakaria, which focuses on the Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Published by Harper Collins India, the book is set to be out on 25 July. In a first book of its kind, award-winning writer Zakaria travels through the region “to hear the people of ‘Azad’ Kashmir – their sufferings, hopes and aspirations.”

While praising the book, journalist Ahmed Rashid writes it the “first detailed human interest account of what it means to be Kashmiri and live in the middle of a battlefield.”

Zakaria, who is a researcher, development professional and educationist with a special interest in oral histories and identity, is the author of “The Footprints of Partition: Narratives of Four Generations of Pakistanis and Indians” that won the KLF-German Peace Prize 2017.

The publisher, Harper Collins India, says that in her latest book, Zakaria breaks the silence surrounding a people who are often ignored in discussions on the present and future of Jammu and Kashmir even though they are important stakeholders in what happens in the region.
