Yasin Malik arrested, Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

Police on Monday arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman (JKLF) chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and placed Hurriyat-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.

A spokesman of the party said a large number of police personnel arrested Malik from his Maisuma residence here this morning.

Malik was arrested and detained in Police station Kothibagh to prevent him from leading a protest march in Srinagar against civilian killings in forces action and Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the valley.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest.

A spokesman of the party said a Police party reached at the Nigeen residence of the leader and placed him under detention.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik has called for a protest shutdown today against the continuous civilian killings in the valley.

We are not a big organization. A few thousand rupees from each one of you would make a huge difference.

The Kashmir Walla plans to extensively and honestly cover — break, report, and analyze — everything that matters to you. You can help us.
