Yasin Malik arrested ahead of Burhan Wani’s death anniversary

Ahead of the former Hizb commander Burhan Wani’s second death anniversary, police have arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik on Friday.

Malik was arrested from his Maisuma residence after Fajr prayers and lodged in the police station of the same area.

Earlier, Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) consisting of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a complete shutdown across Kashmir on July 8 to commemorate Wani’s second death anniversary. The leadership had also called for holding a general public rally in Tral.

JRL had also asked religious clerics to hold Fateh Khawni on July 6 to commemorate Wani’s anniversary and that of civilians, who were killed during the 2016 protests across Kashmir valley.

The popular commander was killed by Indian armed forces at southern Kashmir’s Bumdoora village on July 8, 2016.

The Kashmir Walla needs you, urgently. Only you can do it.

We have always come to you for help: The Kashmir Walla is battling at multiple fronts — and if you don’t act now, it would be too late. 2020 was a year like no other and we walked into it already battered. The freedom of the press in Kashmir was touching new lows as the entire population was gradually coming out of one of the longest communication blackouts in the world.

We are not a big organization. A few thousand rupees from each one of you would make a huge difference.

The Kashmir Walla plans to extensively and honestly cover — break, report, and analyze — everything that matters to you. You can help us.
