Unity on Article 35-A, JK’s identity an eye opener for Delhi: JRL

Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik Sunday hailed the people of all regions of Jammu and Kashmir state for protesting against any fiddling with the article 35-A.

According to a statement issued here, terming the unity among the people of Jammu Kashmir on state subject law and unprecedented protest as heartening, leaders said that at JRL call people at Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Baderwah, Kishtwar, Kargil to Kashmir valley staged exemplary protest against Indian moves intended at abrogating or tinkering with the hereditary state subject law in the garb of 35-A.

The statement further added that through this exemplary protest people of Jammu Kashmir have raised their voices against any move or act that is intended to wane, weaken, abrogate or tamper with the national identity and distinctiveness of Jammu Kashmir and have in unequivocal terms and with one voice announced their verdict that no resident of Jammu Kashmir will accept any such move or judgment.

Police as usual have kept ailing veteran leader Syed Ali shah Geelani under House arrest and have placed leader Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq under house arrest too. Police last evening raided the residence of another JRL leader Muhammad Yasin Malik who already had gone into hiding to evade arrest.

While condemning the ongoing nocturnal raids, search operations, arrests, and house detentions, JRL leaders said that this police oppression has once again exposed the originality of the claims made by state police chief and proved the fact that this state is a police state where the law of Jungle is in place. Leaders said that after DGP sahib’s statement of allowing protests on 35A issue, Hurriyat leader Umar Adil Dar became the first victim of this Jungle Raj who was arrested and slapped with PSA and sent to Kuthua Jail for delivering a letter from the leadership to bar members of Islamabad Court.

JRL leaders said that Jammu Kashmir is a disputed territory and the people of this state have a unique identity, a rare distinctiveness and heritage and this uniqueness in fact guarantees our right of self-determination and therefore no Kashmiri can think of allowing any tinkering with this uniqueness which is also known as state subject law.

JRL said that Indian supreme court is set to hear 35 A case on 6 August 2018 and we appeal to all inhabitants of Jammu Kashmir to make this day as an outstanding protest day too and if God forbid any anti-Kashmir judgment is delivered by the court, be ready for a full-fledged peoples agitation against that.

While hailing the exemplary efforts of all trade bodies, chambers, employees unions, bankers, transporters, civil society, intellectuals, student unions, and people related to tourism sector and Kashmiri Diaspora, JRL said that the unity and resilience shown by each Kashmiri is unprecedented and needs to be preserved and maintained by us all.
