Shutdown against random arrests of two youth in Kulgam

The movement of traffic on Islamabad – Kulgam road was affected on Thursday for the second consecutive as people observed shutdown in Qaimou area against the random nocturnal raids and subsequent arrests of youth on charges of stone-pelting.

Locals reported that Kulgam police during a nocturnal raid arrested two youth Altaf Hussain Sheikh son of Muhammad Akbar and Showkat Ahmed Dar son of Muhammad Yaqoub from the area.

The arrests also sparked protest and all the shops and business establishments remained closed. Locals while demanding the immediate release of the duo said that shutdown would continue till their demands are not met.

A police official while confirming the arrest of duo told that they are involved in different incidents of stone-pelting that happened in the town in past.

Meanwhile, counter-insurgent group SOG arrested two youth in South Kashmir’s Tral town of District Pulwama. Police identified the duo as Tawseef Ahmed Shah son of Nisar Ahmed and Umar Sayeed son Muhammad Sayeed both residents of Pirnar Tral.
