Shutdown, protests in Kupwara over minor boy’s killing


A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Kupwara on Friday against the killing of a minor boy belonging to Batergam.

According to reports protests were also held in Kralepora, Trehgam, Kupwara, Gulgam and Batergam areas of the district against the killing.

They said  that passenger traffic is off the roads while as shops and business establishments closed in the area.

Umer Farooq Malik (8) son of Farooq Ahmad Malik, resident of Batargam village of Kupwara went missing when he left home on Monday afternoon.

A police complaint was filed by the family in Kupwara police station.

However, the body of the boy was recovered last evening in Gushi village with serious burn injuries, with  one of the hands of the boy being cut.

Police have already constituted a SIT to investigate the killing.
