Shutdown, clashes in Kulgam area after forces arrest 7 students

A spontaneous shutdown is being observed  in Khudwani and Quimoh areas of Kulgam district  in south Kashmir on Wednesday following arrests of seven students in the area, The Kashmiriyat reported.

According to reports at least seven college going youths were arrested near SKUAST Branch in Khudwani when they were on their way to home.

“Forces deployed near Khudwani picked them up without any provocation,” an eyewitness was quoted as saying by The Kashmiriyat.

As the news spread through the area, shopkeepers in the area downed their shutters and youth assembled on the streets.

The youth demanding the release of the college students raised pro Freedom and Pro Islam slogans, locals told The Kashmiriyat.

Stone throwing clashes also started in the locality after youth threw stones on forces deployed in the area.

The troops fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters.

Earlier unknown gunmen had looted a bank in the Quimoh locality.
