Shopian gunfight: Intense clashes, 20 injured, 10 bikes set ablaze by forces

At least twenty people suffered injuries during intense clashes in government forces action in parts of Shopian and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir.

The police and paramilitary forces used tear smoke shells, pellets, and live ammunition to disperse the protests. In the incident, at least four youths suffered bullet wounds and sixteen others hit by pellets and tear smoke shells.

All the injured were taken to nearby by respective hospitals. However, Nouman Ashraf Bhat (17) of Balsoo, Kulgam was referred to SKIMS Soura, however, he died on the way.

Moreover, three more persons were referred to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile reports said that 10 bikes belonging to the relatives of militants were set ablaze by government forces  outside the Shopian police lines

They had come to receive bodies of slain militants. (with inputs from GNS)
