Shah to J-K CM “Will give befitting reply to Pakistan”

The Bhartiya Janta Party president Amit Shah who arrived Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, said that Indian army would give a “befitting reply” to Pakistan for ceasefire violations along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured me that if Pakistan resorts to firing, we will definitely give a befitting reply to them,” Shah said, addressing a rally in Kathua today. He is on his first visit to the state since becoming BJP president.

Attacking Omar Abdullah’s government for its failure in providing helping hand to the people whose lives were affected by heavy firing from the other side of border Shah said “It was Omar Abdullah’s duty to meet people who were displaced due to the Pakistani firing”. “Why didn’t he meet affected people rather than adding insult to injury.”

Omar had said Modi government should fulfill its promises of “Achay Din” (Good Days) and he has not seen good days so far. Omar however also said in the assembly, “We can’t do anything with cross border shelling. That’s something for the government of India to see how they will respond to that.”

BJP party president is eying his goal of winning 44 plus seats out of 87 seats in Jammu and Kashmirs’s upcoming assembly elections that are scheduled to be held later this year ever since he gave his statement that he wants to see Hindu Chief Minister in a Muslim majority state.

BJP’s so far best performance in state assembly elections was seen in 2008 when they won 11 seats but since parliamentary elections in which the BJP lead Modi government achieved a dream victory has provided them the moral support. The party has already won three out of six Lok Sabha seats.

Meanwhile in a major setback to Congress, two-time Congress MP and former minister Lal Singh also joined Bhartiya Janta Party at a public rally in Kautha. Speaking on this occasion he said “I have joined BJP in front of Amit Shah to serve the people and the party.”

Welcoming the Lal Sings decision MP and state unit Chief Jugal Kishore Sharma termed it as a big day for party in Jammu and Kashmir he said, “We welcome Mr. Sing in the party. Singh and thousands of workers have joined BJP.”

Shah also visited the RS Pora sector in the morning where he addressed the villagers that have been driven out of their homes near the border because of ceasefire violations. He promised villagers that the Centre government would help those who suffered during the 1962, 1965 and 1971 wars.

At least 3000 people have vacated their homes and are taking shelter in different places including the school building of the area.
