Secy social welfare organises two-day workshop in Jammu

A Two-day workshop for ‘Improvised Accessibility and Mobility’ for disabled persons was organised by Secretary Social welfare Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone at Rehari Chungi Jammu.

The aim to organize the workshop is to empower persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality. Under the Jammu and Kashmir RPWD Act 2018 and Multiple Disability Trust Act 2018, the commissioner for Persons with Disabilities J&K Social Welfare Department in collaboration and supported by KIWANI Club New-Delhi launched the workshop on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Lone, highlighted the recent developments in the Disability Sector which include the enactment of RPWD Act 2018 and its benefits for the overall empowerment of PWDs.

While interacting with disabled persons Dr. Lone added that there was a need to form a joint organization to support and create a friendly environment for the disabilities.

Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) M. Iqbal Lone further added that, “this year will be marked as one of the important times for the Jammu and Kashmir because of the comprehensive framework placed for the empowerment, rights, and entitlements for persons with disabilities.”

Lone further said that the aim is getting PWDs registered for providing artificial limbs free of cost andto avail the benefits of several schemes provided by Social welfare department.

A total of 80-90 beneficiaries are expected to be covered in this two days Prosthetic Aid Camp.

Director of Social Welfare Jammu, DR Bharat Bhushan and other officers of allied departments supported this initiative by providing logistical support for this camp.

Commissioner Disabilities acknowledged the support of officers from Social welfare department and volunteers who have been supporting this initiative to reach out the persons with disabilities for improving their mobility and accessibility.
