Remote Village Of Bandipora In Pictures

Kashmir speaks itself of its beauty and natural ornaments. There are many places which are yet to be visited by many people or we can say urban human eye didn’t reach there yet. A place, a village of Kashmir valley, Weavan is a far flung area where none of the droplets from state-budget-ocean could be sprinkled. The pictures below are taken by a young freelance photojournalist, Muhabit-ul-Haq in December 2010 when he visited the village. Text by Fahad Shah.

Small mud-wooden huts between some haystacks on the end of hill welcome you to the Village, Weavan— 32 kms away from Bandipora town. One has to walk from Bonukoot village to reach Weaven as it lacks road connectivity.

They built huts to live, made of logs, grass and mud. Logs are to strengthen. Grass is for roof. And mud is to avoid winter chill.

As the village has no drinking water facilities; from young children to elders, all get water from a nearby spring. Everyone has his/her given time slot to use the spring services.

Food is fuel to life. People cook on their mud Choolha’s by using wood to burn.

Women play major role in village life so do in this far flung village. From storing water to cook and from looking after children to do household work, they do it all.

Education here means a middle school which lacks all the basic facilities. No electricity lights up the candles after dusk under which young minds study.

This village lacks everything which a human life needs. And they don’t marry their brides or grooms outside village to save their ethnicity.

The Kashmir Walla needs you, urgently. Only you can do it.

We have always come to you for help: The Kashmir Walla is battling at multiple fronts — and if you don’t act now, it would be too late. 2020 was a year like no other and we walked into it already battered. The freedom of the press in Kashmir was touching new lows as the entire population was gradually coming out of one of the longest communication blackouts in the world.

We are not a big organization. A few thousand rupees from each one of you would make a huge difference.

The Kashmir Walla plans to extensively and honestly cover — break, report, and analyze — everything that matters to you. You can help us.
