Pulwama gunfight: Banihal-Srinagar train service suspended

Srinagar: Banihal-Srinagar train services were suspended by the authorities following the killing of a local militant in a brief gunfight with the government forces in Awantipora area of Pulwama district on Friday morning.

As per the railway officials, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

They also confirmed that the train services on Budgam-Baramulla railway track will run as per the schedule.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between youth and government forces in the Pulwama area of south Kashmir after news about killing of a militant went viral in the area.

Locals said that the forces responded to the protests with teargas shelling and pellet firing.

As per police officials, gunfight erupted after a joint team of government forces including Army, Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Operations Group and CRPF paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation in Renzipora village following specific information about the presence of militants in the area which turned into encounter after militants fired upon the search party of the forces.
