Protests erupt in Bijbehara town over forces “highhandedness”

Protests erupted Friday in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara town on Friday after over alleged highhandedness of government forces, local sources said.

According to witnesses the protests erupted after government forces out of blue started checking identity cards of the people in the Bijbehara main market and then allegedly went berserk.

They said that the forces smashed bikes and cars and also beat shopkeepers in the area, which lead to rise in anger among the people who while sloganeering started throwing stones on the forces.

The shopkeepers of the town amidst tension downed their shutters.
