Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police confirmed that Lashkar e Toiba outfit commander Naveed Jatt was killed in Budgam gunfight today morning.
A police spokesman said that Naveed Jatt along with his associate were killed in the gunfight at Chatergam.
“Among the two militants killed, one is identified as Naveed Jatt alias Hanzallah affiliated with militant outfit LeT,” the spokesman said.
Jatt was topmost commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba and was killed in an encounter at Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. It was a joint operation by 50 RR of the Indian army, SOG, and CRPF.
Earlier, it was reported that two militants were killed while three army men have been injured in the encounter.
The forces had laid a siege around the Chatergam area after receiving credible inputs about the presence of two militants in the area, who during the search operation opened fire upon forces, triggering a gunfight.
Jatt was accused of assassinating veteran journalist Syed Shujaat Bukhari on June 14 this year outside his office in Lal Chawk, Srinagar.
