Panchayat polls: 33.7% voting recorded in Kashmir, 85.2% in Jammu

A voter turnout of 33.7% was recorded in the Kashmir division in the fifth phase of panchayat polls amid shutdown and boycott call by the joint resistance leadership (JRL).

Highest voter turnout of 42.5% was recorded in Kupwara district of north Kashmir and lowest turnout in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district with less than one percent voters casting their votes.

Meanwhile 10.1% voters excercised their franchisee to vote in the Anantnag district.

In north Kashmir’s Bandipora and Baramulla districts voter percentage was recorded as 34.6 and 32.9 respectively. In Budgam the turnout was 34.8% while as it was 20.3% in Ganerbal district.

In Jammu division it was above 80%  in all the districts with Reasi recording 89.1%  turnout in the division. Followed by Jammu which recorded a voter turnout of 88.9%. Poonch recorded 84.5% and  Ramban 85.2%. In Udhampur the turnout was 82.0%, lowest in the division.

Doda district of Jammu division recorded 83.3% and Rajouri had turnout of 82.9% in the fifth phase of Panchayat polls.

The overall percentage in Jammu division and Kashmir division touched 85.2% and 33.7, while the overall voting percentage was 71.1 in the State.
