Pakistan issues commemorative special postage stamps on Kashmir

Srinagar: Pakistan has issued 20 special postage stamps to commemorate the “victims of atrocities by government forces in Kashmir.”

The postage stamps also carry the captions like – Burhan Wani (1994-2016) ‘freedom icon’, as per a report in the Times of India.

According to the report that quoted a senior official of Pakistan, “The step was taken to locally and internationally highlight the predicament of the people living in Kashmir.”

The stamps were issued from the Post’s headquarter in Karachi on 24 July.

One of the stamps also carry the photo of Burhan Wani and his other two associates who were killed in a gun battle with the army in Anantnag district of South Kashmir on 8 July 2016. The death of Burhan Wani triggered the massive uprising in the Valley.

Other captions on the stamps are as “use of chemical weapons,” “use of pellet guns,” “mass graves,” “braid chopping,” Human shield and the pictures of some militants killed in the last few years of encounters.
