After a few days of protests against the civilian killings in Kashmir, Pakistan today condemned the use of force by the government forces against the protesters.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokeswoman, Tasnim Aslam, Pakistan also called the arrest of separatist leaders in the Valley a matter of concern. “Pakistan is deeply concerned at the increase in systematic human rights violations in Kashmir. We condemn the brutal use of force by Indian security forces against peaceful and unarmed protesters, resulting in the killing of two Kashmiri young men,” said Aslam, in the statement.

The protests in Kashmir region escalated after the army killed a civilian, Khalid Wani, in Tral region of South Kashmir last week. During the protests, on Saturday, another teenager Suhail Ahmad Sofi was also shot dead by the forces in Central Kashmir.

Aslam also said, “Brutality and coercion have not and will not succeed in suppressing the aspiration and struggle of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination, promised to them by the UNSC resolutions.”

Pakistan repeatedly, she added, stressed the need for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue through sustained and meaningful dialogue between Pakistan and India and in accordance with the wishes of Kashmiris and Pakistan will continue to extend political, diplomatic and moral support to Kashmiris.
