Srinagar: Chairman Conference Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umer Farooq urged the United Nations to deeply introspect the ongoing ground situation in Kashmir as the human rights situation is “grim”, he said on Friday.

While addressing Friday gathering at the historical Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, he said that they have welcomed the UNHRC report – issued for the first time in the history of Kashmir. But, he demanded the UN send a team to the valley who will conduct a ground assessment on the ongoing volatile situation here.

He further expressed sadness over the step of caged all resistance leadership in nocturnal raids led by government forces before the world rights day. Added that the activists were not even allowed to carry candlelight marches as a mark of protest.

Following the Friday prayers, the Mirwaiz headed a protest outside the Masjid against the increasing human rights violations in Kashmir.
