The two militants who carried out the suicide attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp of 73 Battalion today in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir were not posing as cricketers, eyewitnesses say.

One of the eyewitnesses, Suhail Nazir, who was playing cricket in the nearby ground, said that the militants were not posing as cricketers and they didn’t have any cricket kit with them. “It is a lie. They are all lying to prove that we all are terrorists,” Nazir, 21, who is being treated at a hospital for his injured leg, said.

A senior police officer said that the two militants sneaked into the ground posing as cricketers and brought weaponry in the kit bags. “CRPF men were installed there for law and order so they were without arms and ammunition,” he said.

Nazir also adds that when the attack happened he couldn’t understand what was going on. “We were waiting for next 10 minutes till the firing stopped and then we ran. I was hit by a bullet in my leg,” Nazir said.

Three other injured boys who were playing cricket are Mudasir Wani, Mohammad Asif (17), Ubaid Farooq (20).

Five Indian forces and 2 militants have been killed in the attack and 12 people are injured. This is the first suicide attack in last three years, since 2010.
