Kulgam gunfight: Civilian death toll reaches 5, over 43 injured

Srinagar: The civilian death toll in Kulgam gunfight has mounted to five after two more civilians succumbed to injuries at SMHS hospital in Srinagar, while as 43 civilians have been injured in the clashes at the gunfight site at Laroo area of district Kulgam.

The dead civilians have been identified as Ubaid Laway son of Mohammad Maqbool Laway, Uzair Ahmad, Mansoor Ahmad, Talib Maqbool of Laroo, Tajamul Ahmad of Denew Bogund and Irshad Ahmad of Shurat.

Chief medical officer Anantnag/Kulgam, Dr. Fazil Kochak told The Kashmir Walla that three civilians succumbed to injuries at DH Kulgam, while as 9 were refered to SMHS for advanced treatment. “Two among them were critically injured and they succumbed to their injuries at SMHS,” said Kochak.

As per reports, the two who succumbed at DH Kulgam were injured in a blast at gunfight site while the ones who succumbed at SMHS had received firearm injuries during clashes.

Meanwhile, police has tweeted about the gunfight, “Civilians visited the encounter site immediately after operation inspite of request not to visit as thorough search is to be made for explosives once flames douse off . They didn’t listened and thus visited the spot immediately after forces withdrew and some explosive substance went off resulting in injuries to civilians. One civilian namely Ubaid Laway son of Mohammad Maqbool Laway of Laroo died,” police tweeted .

Earlier three militants were killed and two army men suffered injuries during a gunfight at Laroo village of Kulgam.
