Kashmiri students to protest in Delhi

Thirteen Kashmiri students studying in Rohtak, who were expelled by the management of Rohtak Institute of Engineering and Management (RIEM) – a local engineering institute and later taken back, will hold a protest demonstration in New Delhi today, against the central government’s non-receipt of their scholarship amount.

The delay first led to the expulsion of the students and now they have not been given hostel facility.  Earlier on 5 May, the students sat on a dharna outside Mini-Secretariat in Rohtak against the denial of hostel facility.

The students told a local newspaper that they were forced to put up at costly rented accommodation. If they were not provided accommodation in the hostel, they would protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the protesters told the daily.

Today the students will be gathering at the Jantar Mantar to demand the intervention of the government. “They have been removed from the hostel and living in rented locations that they can’t afford. Now they are going to sit on an indefinite hunger strike in Delhi,” a news channel reported.
