A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley over the killing of scholar turned militant Manan Wani who was killed in a gunfight in Shatgund area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara distric on Thursday.
Normal life has come to a grinding halt in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley in wake of the shutdown call given by joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
All the shops, commercial establishments, schools and colleges, petrol pumps are closed across valley.
Public transport is off the roads even as light motor vehicles can be seen plying on the roads of Srinagar.
In Srinagar stringent security measures have been put in place to thwart any attempt of people to hold anti-India demonstrations.
In srinagar’s volatile downtown restrictions have been imposed with CRPF and police manning entry points of downtown at places like, Nowhatta, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal, Saraf Kadal and other localities of the old city.
Reports of shutdown have also been received from other major towns and districts of the Valley.
In north Kashmir’s Kupwara, class work in all schools and colleges remained suspended today.
Meanwhile, high speed internet service has been suspended in Srinagar and other parts of valley
