Kashmir shuts down for third day to mourn killings

A complete shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley Monday  for third consecutive day to mourn the killings of seven civilians in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

All shops and other business establishments are closed in Srinagar , and elsewhere in the valley while public transport is off the roads.

Educational institutions are closed while the exams scheduled for Monday in  universities have been postponed.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising  Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik – has called for shutdown and a march to Badami Bagh army base in Srinagar today to against  the killings.

On Saturday, seven civilians were killed and scores of others were injured after government forces fired at the protesters near the site of a gunfight that left three militants and an army man dead in Sarnoo village of Pulwama.

Meanwhile ,in view of the Badami Bagh march call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership, authorities on Monday imposed curfew in several places in Kashmir capital, Srinagar even as security has a been beefed up on the roads leading to the Army Chinar Corps’ headquarters at Badamibagh and the police and CRPF have barricaded the area.
