A complete shutdown is being observed in the Kashmir valley on Thursday against the killing of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Hafizullah Mir who was killed at home in south Kashmir’s Achabal area of Anantnag.
All shops and other business establishments are closed while movement of public transport is off the roads. However, quite a few of private vehicles are plying on the roads in Srinagar city and other district headquarters.
Meanwhile in downtown Srinagar security has been heightened to thwart any protests.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Yasin Malik on Tuesday had called for a shutdown Thursday and protests after congregational prayers on Friday against the killing of Hurriyat leader.
Mir was killed on Tuesday at his residence by unknown gunmen. While pro-freedom groups blamed Indian agencies for the killing, the police on the other hand said that Mir was killed by militants.
