Kashmir: Flood water submerges Srinagar city

Kashmir floods

Several parts of the Srinagar city in Kashmir are submerged under flood water coming from the Jehlum river – flowing above the banks at several places. Around 160 people have died so far.

The busy Hari Singh High Street of city centre Lal Chowk is flooded. The civil lines areas of the city including Rajbagh, Jawahar Nagar, Batamaloo, are under water.

The government has not reached to several areas where people are trying to leave from their houses after water seeped into the areas, but the state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has assured that the government’s priority is to evacuate the trapped people.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Jammu and Kashmir today to access the situation. He will be reaching Jammu at morning and then travel to Srinagar.
