Journalist hit by pellets during clashes in Shopian

A journalist was injured during clashes between protesters and  government forces following a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Meemandar village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Reports  said that a journalist working with Zee news identified as Aijaz Ahmad Dar was hit by pellets during clashes that erupted soon after forces launched a search operation in the village.

The injured journalist was shifted to district hospital Shopian for treatment, he said.

“We put our hands up and told them that we are from the press and one of my colleague was wearing press jacket. But the forces directly targeted both of us,” Ajaz was quoted as saying by Kashmir Life.

The CASO was launched in the area soon after militants attack army patrol toady afternoon, said an official.

The operation was going on when the reports last came in.
