Jhelum water crosses flood mark, authorities issue advisory


Due to continuous rain form the last 2 days, the gauge at Sangam has crossed flood declaration level of 21 feet at 6 pm on Friday. The department has said the habitation residing along the embankments of Jhelum and low lying area of South Kashmir are advised to remain vigilant.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department posted the advisory on Facebook.

According to the weather forecast, rainfall is supposed to get milder. Announcing this Director Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus told a news agency KNS that MeT office had already predicted heavy to moderate rains from June 27 to 29 and rains have lashed Kashmir valley and parts of Chenab valley.

Adding to it Lotus said, “the rain has brought much-awaited respite to the people in Jammu and Kashmir and is expected to improve the agriculture and the horticulture yields in the state. We will continue to monitor the situation and let people know about the intensity of rain on July 01 and July 02 at the appropriate time.”
