As the second wave of the Coronavirus sweeps across India, 93,249 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, said the union health ministry on Sunday.

The tally of COVID-19 cases in India has reached 1,24,85,509.

As per the health ministry, eight states in the country are continuously witnessing the surge in cases.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state last year, has seen the biggest spike of Coronavirus cases for a month now.

On Saturday, 49,447 more infections were recorded and the tally has reached 29,53,523.

The death toll reached 1,64,623 on Sunday with 513 new fatalities, showed the ministry data.

India has 6,91,597 active cases. The recovery rate has dropped to 93.14 percent.
