In Pictures: A day of gunfights, funerals and clashes


Srinagar: On Thursday, three militants, one army personnel and a civilian were killed in two gunfights and a Cordon and Search operation in Kashmir Valley.

Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit identified as Sheeraz Ahmad Bhat of Kralwari Chadoora and Irfan Ahmad Dar of Kakapora, Pulwama were killed in an encounter in Panzan area of Budgam this afternoon.

Dar was working as Special Police Officer (SPO) and had deserted a couple of months ago along with an AK-47.

Also, a youth identified as Saleem Malik son of Mohammad Yaqoob was shot dead by government forces in Noorbagh area of Srinagar setting off massive protests in which nearly fifteen people were injured, seven of them with pellets.

One militant and an army personnel were also killed during a gunfight at Gakisgund area of Dooru.

Pro-freedom leaders’ JRL called for a shutdown on Friday to protest the killings.
