Guv Malik orders inquiry, expresses grief over civilian killings

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik while expressing grief over the civilian killings in Pulwama ordered an inquiry in the incident.

During post gunfight clashes in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district seven civilians were killed on Saturday. Governor Malik directed the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to probe the incident.

During a meeting with Advisor to governor K Vjay Kumar, Chief Secretary B.V.R Subramanyam, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor Umang Narula, Principal Secretary Home R.K. Goyal, SDS Jamwal, IGP Jammu and officers of State and Central Police forces; Baseer Khan, Div. Commissioner Kashmir; Muneer Khan, ADGP, Law, and Order; S.P. Pani, IGP, Kashmir and Ravideep Singh Sahi, IG CRPF participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Reviewing the latest security scenario in Kashmir including details of the counter-infiltration and counter militant operations undertaken recently, Governor directed the security forces to minimize the collateral damage during anti-militant operations.

During such operations people-friendly measures have been recommended by Governor, asking the security forces and the administration to address the post operations complications.

Governor, Malik directed Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to inquire about the incident that happened in Pulwama today and suggest precautions to minimize civilian casualties in anti-militancy operations.

Emphasizing the crucial importance of maintaining sustained close watch on the ground situation Governor appreciated the sustained real time coordination and synergy between the forces and the Civil Administration, after reviewing the prevailing security situation and arising challenges.

Feeling the grief over loss of lives during operation, Governor appealed to the people to keep a distance from areas where anti-militancy operations are in progress. He urged to remain far from such areas and not to rush immediately.

As per the Standard Operation Procedure Governor directed security forces to give time for people to evacuate from an area during an anti-militancy operation.
