Asking the Jammu and Kashmir police to get ready, graffiti on shop shutters at city center Lal Chowk and other places appeared this morning. The graffiti are believed to have been drawn during the intervening night of March 14 and 15. However, authorities are clueless as to who could be behind the activity.

Graffiti reading ‘JKP we r [are] coming’ could be seen on shop shutters and the policemen were immediately put on duty to deface the graffiti.

Though senior police officers refused to officially comment over the issue but one of the senior officer said, on the condition of anonymity, that the agitated youth could have drawn the graffiti. “But we are right now clueless over the issue,” he added.

When asked what the graffiti could be intended to convey, he said, “It can also be a mere joke. But real threat cannot be ruled out either. We are looking at every angle,” he said.

Pertinently, graffiti appeared on walls when all localities were under strict curfew, restricting people to stay inside.

Graffiti has started coming up in Kashmir since civil uprising of 2008 and 2010 in which the common graffiti would be “Go India Go Back”. Authorities with the help of police would paint them black or white to deface the messages.
