A school boy was shot dead by Indian paramilitary forces, CRPF, at Narbal area of district Budgam – 15 kms north of Srinagar, on Saturday morning during a civilian protest against the killing of a youth in an Army operation in Tral area south Kashmir earlier this week.

State forces open fire at demonstrators injuring three people. One of the injured identified as Suhail Ahmed Sofi, 16, later succumbed en-route to hospital.

According to a police statement, a preliminary inquiry conducted into the matter indicates that the forces deployed acted in violation of the laid down standard operation procedure.

The Hurriyat Conference leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, had given a strike call for today against the killing of a civilian in Tral.

Geelani had planned a march on Friday to Tral, but it was thwarted by the authorities. He was later placed under house arrest.

Several other pro-freedom leaders were also detained including Masarat Alam, who was recently released from jail after four years.

Meanwhile clashes between demonstrators and govt forces are still ongoing in some parts of the valley.
