Geelani condemns Kashmir youth’s killing by Indian army

The chairman of Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani has condemned the killing of 24-year-old, Tahir Rasool Sofi who was killed in district Varmul of North Kashmir, this afternoon by the army’s 46-Rashtriya Rifles.

Addressing the people telephonically from New Delhi, Geelani said “martyrdom of Tahir Rasool Sofi will not go astray and it will be
remembered always till our struggle for freedom reaches a logical conclusion.”

He paid rich tributes to the deceased and prayed for the patience and the strength for the family of Sofi.

Sofi, 24, was shot at head and he had died on the spot this afternoon. It led to intense protests in the district and people in hundreds gathered outside the home of the deceased. One youth, namely, Mohammad Abbas had also sustained injuries after a bullet hit his leg.

Geelani also urged people to remain steadfast for bringing back the mortal remains of Mohammad Afzal Guru, who was hanged on Feb. 9 this year in Tihar jail after he was convicted for attacking the Indian Parliament in 2001 and Maqbool Butt who was hanged on Feb. 11, 1984.
