Encounter starts in Shopian

Srinagar: Encounter broke out between the militants and the government forces in Batgund area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

According to the sources, 34RR of Indian Army, SOG of Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly launched the operation.

The area was earlier under Cordon and Search Operation upon forces receiving a specific input about the presence of militants in the area.

Local reports said that more reinforcements have been called to the spot as troopers have installed search lights over the area.

As per reports 3-4 local militants from South Kashmir are believed to be trapped in a residential house.

However, a police statement confirming the exchange of fire said that the information is preliminary and more details will follow.
