Encounter starts in Shopian, civilian injured in clashes


An encounter has started between militants and government forces in Damadora area, of South Kashmir’s Shopian District.

According to a news agency The Kashmiriyat, 44 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly launched the operation.

The encounter started when militants fired on a patrolling party of government forces.

Earlier, forces had launched a search operation in the area upon receiving a specific input about the presence of militants in the area.

2-3 Militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

Earlier in the day, one civilian was hit with bullets during the clashes that erupted after the anti-militancy operation was launched.

The boy has been shifted to hospital for treatment, his condition is said to be stable.
