Tabinda Gani gang rape case, all four convicts sentenced to death

After a trial of more than seven years today Kupwara district and Sessions court has given death sentence to all four convicts in Tabinda Gani rape & murder case.

Principal and Sessions Judge Kupwara, Muhammad Ibrahim Wani today announced the judgment in the case and sentenced all four convicts in the case to death. The convicts included Sadiq Mir, Azhar Ahmad Mir who are residents of Langate while two non-locals – Mochi Jahangir Ansari of West Bengal and Suresh Kumar of Rajasthan.

Earlier, the court had found all four men guilty of gang rape and cold blooded murder

13-year-old, Gani was abducted, raped and brutally murdered by four men in 2007 in Kupwara district in Kashmir.

An 8th grade student of Uqab English medium school Langate, Tabinda was found dead in an orchard in Langate area on July 20, 2007. Later, medical reports confirmed rape before murder which was carried out by slitting her throat. A case FIR no. 152/2007 U/S 302, 376 and 34 RPC was registered and after investigation, police filed charge sheet against the accused.

Family members of the victim have hailed the court’s decision.
