As the news of the killing of three policemen, who were abducted early this morning, did the rounds in the South Kashmir’s Shopian district, at least six policemen took to social media to announce their resignation within a couple of hours after the incident. Though, there is no official confirmation, if anyone has submitted the resignation to the police headquarters.

Militant commanders, who accuse the SPO of being mere informers of Government Forces have repeatedly asked them to quit their jobs. The process begins last month fearing the chances of being killed at the hands of militants.

Notably, this year Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Riyaz Naikoo warned the Jammu and Kashmir police to not stand against them.

The policemen who announced their resignations identified themselves as Nawaz Ahmad Lone (SPO) of Tengam Kulgam, Shabir Ahmad Thokar (SPO) of Samnoo Kulgam, Tajallah Husssain (SPO) of Heepora Butgund, Shopian, Umar Bashir (SPO) of Kapran Shopian, Irshad Ahmad Baba (constable) of Dangam, Shopian and Naseer Ahmad (SPO) of Wahibug Pulwama.

In April, over a dozen SPOs announced their resignation in south Kashmir’s Tral.

After the continuous killings of policemen, J-K police also reasserted an advisory asking the forces’ officials not to visit their homes for more than two to three hours and also inform local police stations about their visit.

In this year, around 35 J-K policemen were targeted and killed in encounters during their visits to their native villages, reported The Kashmiriyat.

On August 23, militants killed three policemen, including an inspector across south Kashmir, as they visit their home.

In the last month, 11 family members of policemen were abducted by militants in a reaction of harassing and damaging the property of the militants family. Later all of them were released unharmed, leading to the controversy of transfer of the SP Vaid.
