Srinagar: Intense clashes erupted in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Anantnag district on Friday after the news of militant’s killing spread in the town.
Reports said that youth took to streets and started throwing stones on the government forces deployed in the town after the news of the killing of Ishfaq Ahmad Wani of Koil village reached there.
The forces retaliated by firing tear gas shells, triggering further clashes.
Clashes were also reported from Lal chowk area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag township. As per local reports, hundreds of youth shouting anti-India slogans came on streets and threw stones at the forces deployed in the area.
Wani, who was part of a militant group that attacked an army patrolling party in Rinzipora area of Awantipora today morning, was killed in the ensuing shootout.
Reports said that the other two militants managed to escape from the spot after the shootout.
