Commuters on the business center of Srinagar, Lal chowk, were up for a surprise on Friday when government forces suddenly cordoned off the area and launched a cordon and search operation(CASO).

Reports  said people were panicked after forces  laid Cordon from Ghanta Ghar to Court Road area and started searches.

They said that besides frisking, the commuters and pedestrians were asked to produce the identity cards.

Earlier pictures of forces checking mobile phones and laptops of commuters triggered criticism and anger among masses calling it an attack on privacy.

The search operation was going on when reports last came in.
