Srinagar: District administration Srinagar on Saturday decided to impose restrictions in Srinagar areas on Sunday to prevent any possible protests, in view of the shutdown called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the Pulwama killings.
As per official reports, the restrictions will be imposed in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safa Kadal, Maharaj Gunj and Maisuma police stations, particularly in old city areas to prevent any possible protests called by JRL.
Officials said “The restrictions will be imposed as a precautionary measure.” Following the today’s incident in Pulwama that took seven lives, JRL called for three-day shutdown against the civilian killings.
Three militants and a soldier were also killed in the gunfight that started in the Saturday early morning in Sirnoo village of Pulwama district.
Meanwhile, protests also erupted in the downtown areas of Srinagar including the protest held by Hurriyat(M) activists after the news about civilian spread.
Prayers in absentia were also held for the civilians in the main campus of Kashmir University.
