Anti-Israel protests in various parts of Kashmir

Hundreds of people today staged a protest in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir in response to a protest call given by Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani against the ongoing killings in Gaza that has left more than 200 people dead.

The protestors including students, after offering congregational Friday prayers, assembled outside the historical Jamia Masjid and staged anti-Israel protests and pro-Palestine demonstrations.

Carrying placards, protesters chanted anti-Israel slogans “death to Israel,” “Israel is a Zionist state,” “brothers of Gaza we are with you,” “Zionists are terrorists,” and took out a rally.

Umar Bashir, a student, told The Kashmir Walla that Israel has become arrogant in power and wants to rule entire world. “Arab countries are watching like mute spectators, if they want they can shut the Israeli’s mouth forever,” said Bashir.

“I don’t get how Arab countries provide fuel to Israelis. They know Israel uses air strikes to kill innocent people of Gaza. If Arab countries stop providing fuel to Israel, its name will vanish from the globe.”

Minutes after protests concluded violent clashes started in the area when the youth hurled stones at the police and paramilitary forces, eyewitnesses said. The forces were already deployed on the roads for security measures.

Sources said that three policemen received minor injuries in the clashes however police used tear-smoke shells to disperse angry youth to maintain law and order in the area.

Protests were also reported from South Kashmir’s Anantnag district as well where a youth was injured during police firing.

Reports of protests also came from Sopore where at least three people including a women were injured in clashes. People also took out anti-America and anti-Israel rallies. The Kashmir University students also protested against Israel today. Some of the students’ identity cards were taken by the university authorities.
