Anantnag youth died in grenade explosion, says police

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday while refuting media stories of a youth being killed after hit by pellets said that he died when a grenade exploded in his hand.

Shiraz Ahmad Naikoo was brought dead to Anantnag District hospital today morning after receiving injuries during post-Eid prayers clashes.

As reported earlier, the hospital administration and locals said Naikoo had received pellet injuries in neck and head, to which he later succumbed at the hospital.

The Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Anantnag, Dr. Majid Mirab, while speaking to The Kashmir Walla over phone had confirmed the death, saying, “He had a volley of pellets in his head and neck and was brought dead.”

However, a police statement issued here said, “As reported by certain sections of media that one person died in clashes with security forces at Anantnag is refuted.”

It added that the preliminary investigation reveals that “a Hand Grenade exploded resulting in his death due to splinter injuries and his right hand got fully damaged.”
