Journalists detained for protesting against the killing of Shujaat Bukhari

Srinagar: Several journalist and activists on Friday were detained by Jammu and Kashmir police while they were holding a protest rally in solidarity with slain journalist Shujaat Bukhari.

According to reports the journalists and social activists today held protest and solidarity with Shujaat Bukhari’s family outside secretariat in Srinagar.

The protesting journalists were demanding justice in the killing of late Rising Kashmir editor who was killed last year outside his office on this day.

Eyewitnesses said that the police party did not allow them to gather and protest, “The DySp of Shaheed Gunj police station did not allow the peaceful protest and asked everyone to board the police van unless we don’t want to get beaten,” he said. Adding that the police team misbehaved with both those who were protesting and those who had arrived to the spot to cover the protest.

Another eyewitness said that police snatched posters and placards from them.

Detained persons  include: Arshid Mir,Nazir Makhdoomi, Muzaffar Khan,zahoor Bhat,Bashir wani,Bilal Ahmad, Farooq bhat, Khursheed Naqati,Bashir Thoker,Manzoor Chowdhary.
