Srinagar: Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday apologised to the public for the inconvenience due to civilian traffic ban on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway,
Malik however asserted that the decision was taken in the national interest.
“I apologise to the people for the inconvenience they had to face due to the highway restrictions but the ban was imposed in national interest,” Malik told journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of second phase of Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover.
The government had imposed restrictions on Kashmir highway following the Pulwama attack, that killed 40 paramilitary troopers.
The prohibition on civilian traffic on NH-44 from Baramulla to Udhampur was imposed twice a week, i.e. on Sunday and Wednesday, from 4.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.
