Airstrike kills 17 policemen in Afghanistan ‘by mistake’

An airstrike has killed 17 policemen ‘by mistake’ in South Afghanistan.

Afghan Official said that after afghan police were fighting Taliban outside the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah in the country’s southern Helmand province, 17 policemen were killed.


Attaullah Afghan, head of the provincial council, says ‘the airstrike took place on Thursday as Afghan police were fighting the Taliban near the city. He added that 14 policemen were wounded in the strike.’

However, for them, it wasn’t immediately clear whether it was Afghan or U.S forces who carried out the airstrike. There was no immediate response to a query to the U.S. military in Kabul. American forces regularly back Afghan troops when asked to
