Six injured as forces open fire during Zeenat’s funeral in Shopian

Srinagar: At least six people are injured that erupted in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

The Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Pulwama, Dr. Rashid Parra told The Kashmir Walla that five civilians have been received with injuries. “We have five injured from Shopian, among which one has received fire arm injury in leg, another has either a shell or fire arm in head. Two have pellet injuries,” said Dr. Parra.


Thousands gathered on Sunday at the native village of Zeenat-ul Islam, a commander of Al Badr outfit, who was killed in an encounter with the government forces on Saturday evening in Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, along with his associate.

Clashes erupted during the funeral procession, which were responded by the government forces with opening fire, pellets and shells. At least six people are confirmed injured so far.

While speaking to The Kashmir Walla, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Shopian said that one person has been received by the hospital with bullet injury in leg.

As per reports, clashes had erupted when Army had blocked all the entry points for people trying to have last glimpse and participate in funeral prayers of Mr. Islam.

Considered as an Improvised explosive device (IED) expert, Zeenat ul Islam of Shopian’s volatile Sugan area had joined militant ranks in 2015. He was now commander of Al Badr outfit.
