Shutdown, congregational prayers to mark 1993 Sopore massacre

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Sopore to mark the twenty-sixth anniversary of Sopore massacre.

On 6 January 1993, 57 civilians were shot dead by the troopers of 94 BN Border Security Force (BSF) and set ablaze 400 shops and 75 residential houses.


As per locals all the shops and other business establishments are closed and vehicles is off the roads in the Sopore town.

Reports said hundreds of people including members of civil society and traders offered congregational Fateha for the people killed in the massacre.
