Srinagar: Militants offered gun salute to militant commander Zeenat-ul Islam in Sugan area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday afternoon, eyewitnesses said.
Thousands gathered on Sunday at the native village of Zeenat-ul Islam, a commander of Al Badr outfit, who was killed in an encounter with the government forces on Saturday evening in Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, along with his associate.
After multiple rounds of funeral prayers militants made their visibility in Zeenat’s native village Sugan, area of Shopian district and offered gun salute to the commander.
Eyeswitnesses said that around 20 rounds were fired in air by the militants to pay tribute to Islam.
Meanwhile clashes are going on in Sugan and six civilians have received injuries, and scores of people have gathered there to see last glimpse of Zeenat’s face.
Zeenat was among the top militant commanders and in army’s most wanted list.
