Srinagar: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah  on Monday said that late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed used to ferry supporters in police vehicles to republic day functions to show the situation was improving in Jammu and Kashmir.

The National Conference leader was responding to a tweet by Delhi based journalist who had termed the recent order of Jammu and Kashmir governor as silly, “Please correct me if I’m wrong here but this isn’t the first time. Attendance has been compulsory in the past as well. In fact late Mufti Sb used to use state transport/police vehicles to bring supporters to show how much the situation was “improving”.Omar wrote.

Baweja in a tweet had termed the governor Satya Pal Malik’s diktat to make it compulsory for government employees to attend republic day function as silly,“Quite silly of @jandkgovernor to issue a diktat making it compulsory for govt servants to attend Republic Day function. Anyone who does that doesnt really understand the ground reality in the state. Can patriotism be forced?” she tweeted.
